The Swiss energy transition: Policies to address the Energy Trilemma

Abstract We present a power market model that couples short-term electricity markets of five interconnected countries: Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy and France. The simulates the Swiss energy transition. It examines impact international (carbon taxation, fuel prices expansion cross-border transmission capacities) national policies both on operation long-term evolution supply, CO2 emissions, consumer costs security supply. study shows importance understanding interplay players to achieve decarbonization goals effectively. simulate three scenarios (Reference, RES+, NUC+), which differ in RES support nuclear phase-out plans. compare them along dimensions Energy Trilemma prism: sustainability (CO2 emissions), affordability (costs consumer) Reference scenario results highest emissions.
